A Summer Series Through the Psalms
This summer, Beloved will walk through a seven-week series in the Psalms called Songs of the Soul.
The Psalms give language to the full range of life with God. They teach us how to worship, lament, give thanks, long for justice, rejoice in God, love His Word, and find refuge in Him.
Each week, we will focus on one major theme in the Psalms by preaching through one or two anchor Psalms that highlight that theme. Together, the spirit will help us learn how the Psalms form our prayers, shape our worship, and help us bring our whole selves before God.
Series schedule:
July 5, 2026 – Worship and Praise of God
Anchor Psalm: Psalm 100
We begin with worship. Psalm 100 invites us to praise the Lord with joy because He is good, His love endures forever, and His faithfulness continues through all generations.
July 12, 2026 – Lament
Anchor Psalms: Psalm 13 and Psalm 88
Lament is the holy practice of bringing our pain, grief, confusion, and sorrow honestly before God. The Psalms remind us that God is not afraid of our tears.
July 19, 2026 – Thanksgiving
Anchor Psalm: Psalm 107
Thanksgiving teaches us to remember God’s goodness and give thanks for His redeeming love. Gratitude helps us see the grace of God that is often right in front of us.
July 26, 2026 – Justice and Righteousness
Anchor Psalm: Psalm 72
Psalm 72 gives us a vision of justice, righteousness, and a kingdom where the poor, needy, and oppressed are defended. Ultimately, it points us to Jesus, the true and perfect King.
August 2, 2026 – Joy from God
Anchor Psalms: Psalm 126, Psalm 32, and Psalm 37
The Psalms show us that joy is not separate from God. True joy is found in Him: in His forgiveness, restoration, presence, and faithfulness.
August 9, 2026 – Love of the Word
Anchor Psalm: Psalm 119
Psalm 119 teaches us to love God’s instruction and trust His Word as life-giving wisdom. In a world that often resists authority, this Psalm invites us to delight in God’s ways.
August 16, 2026 – God as Refuge
Anchor Psalm: Psalm 16
The Psalms repeatedly show God as our refuge in trouble. Psalm 16 invites us to find our safety, security, joy, and future in God Himself.
Why This Series Matters
The Psalms are not just ancient songs. They are prayers for real life.
They help us worship when we are joyful, pray when we are hurting, give thanks when we are forgetful, hope when we are weary, and trust God when life feels unstable.
Through Songs of the Soul, we want to become a people who bring our full lives before God and learn to pray with honesty, worship with depth, and trust Him in every season.
Go Deeper This Summer
For those who want to study along with the series, consider reading each week’s anchor Psalm before Sunday and reflecting on these questions:
- What does this Psalm teach me about God?
- What does this Psalm reveal about the human soul?
- What does this Psalm invite me to pray?
- What does this Psalm call me to practice?
You may also want to explore helpful resources such as Derek Kidner’s commentaries on the Psalms, Eugene Peterson’s writings on prayer and the Psalms, and BibleProject’s overview of the Book of Psalms.
This summer, don’t just read the Psalms.
Pray them.
Sing them.
Sit with them.
Let them give language to your soul.
